Project background
FinishedBasement.ca is a family‑owned basement renovation company serving Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area, with decades of experience and a focus on fast, high‑quality basement finishing. The website needed to communicate that experience, show real projects, and make it easy for homeowners to reach out for a quote or consultation.
The client provided a detailed PSD design that combined marketing blocks, testimonials, and visual case studies, and the task was to bring this design to life on WordPress in a way that would be easy to maintain.
The challenge
The design emphasised visual content – photos of completed basements, benefit blocks, and trust elements – while also needing a clear structure for services, areas served, and reviews. The challenge was to translate this into a flexible WordPress theme where the team could update galleries, copy, and calls‑to‑action without breaking the layout.
At the same time, the site had to support a clear lead flow: visitors should be able to understand the value proposition (fast basement finishing, experience, quality), browse examples, and then request a quote or free consultation in just a few clicks.
What I worked on
- Development of a custom WordPress theme based on the PSD design, including templates for the homepage, service pages, portfolio/galleries, testimonials, and reviews.
- Front‑end implementation with responsive layouts so that image‑heavy sections, project galleries, and calls‑to‑action look good on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
- Structuring content types for projects and reviews, allowing the client to publish new finished basements and showcase customer feedback in a consistent way.
- Implementation of enquiry and quote request forms linked to key sections of the site, guiding users from inspiration to contacting the company.
- Configuration of the WordPress admin (custom fields, reusable sections) so the team can adjust texts, numbers, and visuals as the company’s portfolio and messaging evolve.

Support and continuous improvement
My role in this project was focused on the implementation phase: converting the PSD layout into a working WordPress site, setting up the content structure, and ensuring the theme was stable. After launch, further support and updates were performed on the client side, and the created database allows for flexible expansion of the portfolio and changes to the content.
